TWO charities have joined forces and hope to make a big bang by hosting a joint fireworks night.
The Hummingbird Centre and The Launton Playing Fields Association (LPFA) have teamed up to stage a family fireworks event at the playing fields ground, off Bicester Road, Launton, near Bicester, on Friday, November 8.
It will be run by a professional fireworks company to ensure a dazzling display.
Gates will open at 6pm and the fireworks display will blast-off from 7pm. There will also be a fair ride, a stall selling flashing toys, candy floss, popcorn, a selection of hot food and drinks and a licensed bar.
All money raised from the event will be split between the Hummingbird Centre and LPFA, which is a charitable trust.
Hummingbird event organiser Fiona Wastie said: “We have 500 tickets to sell and would love to see them all sold so the field is filled with people having a great evening.
“We have kept the price low so that it’s affordable for all and doesn’t become an expensive night out.
“This is as much about bringing the community together as it is about raising money.
“All money raised for the Hummingbird Centre will be used to fund vital services to support people who have cancer and their families.”
Gemma Barrett, LPFA treasurer, said money raised from the display would go towards the trust’s current project to improve the kitchen facilities.
She said: “All of us in Launton associate ourselves with the fantastic work that the Hummingbird do and this is a perfect opportunity for the LPFA to show our support for their tremendous efforts.
“We hope very many people will come along and support the event knowing that as well as seeing a professionally run fireworks display and enjoying the other attractions on offer, they will also be supporting a wonderful organisation who offer such an invaluable service.”
Tickets which cost £5 for adults with under 16s free, are available in advance from The Hummingbird Centre from 10am to 4pm and The Football Club bar in the evenings, or £6 on the gate.
