North Oxfordshire MP Victoria Prentis attended a speed-networking event with carers and charities in Westminster. While she was there she met constituents Emma, Tina and Jill who are all involved with Which? Elderly Care service, a free online web tool which provides independent and practical advice about caring for older people across the UK.
The event kicked off Carers Week which celebrates and recognises the vital contribution made by the 6.5 million people from across the UK who currently provide care and support to a family member or friend who has a disability, illness, mental health problem or who needs extra help as they grow older.
Speaking afterwards, Victoria said:
“I was really pleased I was able to meet my constituents who, through the Which? Elderly Care website, provide essential advice for people who need it. According to the most recent Census, there are almost 11,000 carers in North Oxfordshire. They make a huge contribution to our society; it is essential that we make sure they have the right support at the right time. I welcome the new cross-Government National Carers Strategy which will look at what more can be done to help existing and future carers, and hope to see Carers Week go from strength to strength in the years to come.”
